PANS and PANDAS
Children with PANDAS (Paediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal Infections) may have a sudden change in behaviour or personality. Various symptoms can present simultaneously and intensely, including OCD-type behaviours, selective eating or food refusal, Tics, anxiety, depression, irritability, aggression.
It’s important to be aware that there is ongoing controversy around PANS/PANDAS and the NHS and NICE Guidelines currently do not recognise these conditions. The Royal College of Paediatricians and Psychiatrists have said that based on the evidence so far, any proposed treatment cannot be supported.
