PANS and PANDAS

You might have a usually happy, well-adjusted pupil in your class who may suddenly appear severely anxious. You may notice OCD-type symptoms, physical changes such as tics, social and emotional changes such as communication difficulties affecting friendships. Handwriting can quickly deteriorate, and children may be struggling to focus, retain information and to follow instructions. Share these observations with parents. The condition may be PANS or PANDAS (Paediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal Infections).
